The drama Fayuan Temple represents that turbulent period in history depicting historical figures including Tan Sitong (1865-98), Kang Youwei (1858-1927), Liang Qichao (1873-1929) and the Empress Dowager Cixi (1835-1909). The drama is adapted from the eponymous novel of Li Ao.
