‘Blue tears’ illuminate waters of Pingtan Island

Check out an amazing natural phenomenon called “blue tears” that illuminated the waters of the Pingtan Island in East China’s Fujian province! A marine organism called noctiluca scientillans expelled luminous substances luciferin and luciferase into the water, resulting in this chemical reaction.
