Xinghua, Jiangsu province
Best viewing period: April
Dubbed “a pearl of water town”, Xinghua in East China’s Jiangsu province has profound culture and unique scenery. Duotian, which is the local name for “raised field”, are small patches of fertile soil created to have easy access to water for growing crops. Located in the city’s Dongwang village, the Qianduo scenic area showcases the duotian scenery of the rivers and waterways latticing the fields of rapeseed flowers. As almost every raised field is surrounded by water, the scenic area is also called “a kingdom of 10,000 isles”.
From April to May, the blooming rapeseeds in Xinghua form a vast golden sea of flowers. The Qianduo area attracts tourists who ride a boat to cruise through the flower sea and are intoxicated by fragrance of the flowers.
