In 2021, the value added of the wholesale and retail trades was 11,049.3 billion yuan, up by 11.3 percent over the previous year; that of hotels and catering services was 1,785.3 billion yuan, up by 14.5 percent.
The total retail sales of consumer goods reached 44,082.3 billion yuan, an increase of 12.5 percent over the previous year. An analysis on different areas showed that the retail sales of consumer goods in urban areas stood at 38,155.8 billion yuan, up by 12.5 percent, and that in rural areas reached 5,926.5 billion yuan, up by 12.1 percent.
Grouped by consumption patterns, the retail sales of commodities was 39,392.8 billion yuan, up by 11.8 percent, and that of catering industry was 4,689.5 billion yuan, up by 18.6 percent.
