Adapted from the award-winning novel, the drama Protagonist was staged in Xi’an, Northwest Shaanxi province, on Feb 19. It is the story of the heroine Yiqin'e, a shepherd girl who rises to fame as a Qinqiang Opera actress. .
Originating from the Shaanxi area, the Qinqiang Opera is also known as the Bangzi Opera which is noted for its bold and unconstrained styles.
