Feb 17: Daily briefing on novel coronavirus cases in China

On Feb 16, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 92 new cases of confirmed infections (57 imported cases, 22 in Guangdong province, 9 in Shanghai municipality, 9 in Shandong province, 4 in Zhejiang province, 4 in Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, 3 in Fujian province, 2 in Jilin province, 2 in Sichuan province, 1 in Henan province and 1 in Yunnan province, including 8 confirmed cases converting from asymptomatic cases, 4 in Guangdong, 1 in Zhejiang, 1 in Henan, 1 in Guangxi and 1 in Sichuan; 35 indigenous cases, 16 in Suzhou, Jiangsu province, 7 in Huludao, Liaoning province, 7 in Guangdong including 6 in Shenzhen and 1 in Guangzhou, 3 in Hohhot, Inner Mongolia autonomous region, 1 in Baise, Guangxi and 1 in Dehong Dai and Jingpo autonomous prefecture, Yunnan), 3 new cases of suspected infections (all were imported cases in Shanghai), and no deaths. 91 patients were released from hospital after being cured. 3,013 people who had had close contact with infected patients were freed from medical observation. Serious cases remained unchanged.

As of 24:00 on Feb 16, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland had reported 13,201 cases of imported confirmed infections and no deaths. In all, 12,470 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 731 confirmed cases (including 1 case in serious condition) and 3 suspected cases.

As of 24:00 on Feb 16, the National Health Commission had received reports of 107,288 confirmed cases and 4,636 deaths in 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland, and in all 101,232 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 1,420 confirmed cases (including 7 cases in serious condition) and 3 suspected cases. 1,567,039 people had been identified as having had close contact with infected patients. 29,006 were still under medical observation.

On Feb 16, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 32 new asymptomatic cases (21 imported cases; 11 indigenous cases, 7 in Jiangsu including 6 in Suzhou and 1 in Wuxi, 2 in Shenzhen, Guangdong and 2 in Dehong Dai and Jingpo autonomous prefecture, Yunnan). 54 asymptomatic cases were freed from medical observation (including 51 imported cases) and 8 asymptomatic cases became confirmed cases (all were imported cases). As of 24:00 on Feb 16, 721 asymptomatic cases were still under medical observation (including 636 imported cases).

As of 24:00 on Feb 16, 39,692 confirmed infections had been reported in the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions and Taiwan province: 19,881 in Hong Kong (227 had died and 15,234 had been cured and discharged from hospital), 79 in Macao (all had been cured and discharged from hospital) and 19,732 in Taiwan (852 had died and 13,742 had been cured and discharged from hospital).
