The drama The Start of Autumn will be staged at the Wenzhou Grand Theater in Wenzhou city, Zhejiang province on April 24. It tells the story of a Shanxi merchant family whose fortunes were impacted after the fall of the Qing dynasty (1644-1911).
Also known as the Jin merchants, the Shanxi merchants were dominant during the Ming and Qing dynasties (1368-1911). They were in the finance business and operated piaohao, a Chinese type of draft bank.
