Located on the border of China and Russia, Beiji village is reputed as China’s Arctic Village because it is the coldest place in China. The village is also the best viewing point for the aurora borealis and white night scenery in China. As there is not enough sunshine all year round, the thick snow does not thaw, which makes the village a perpetual ice and snow wonderland.
Most of the residents live in wooden houses. They hang red lanterns at the door. There is a Santa Claus Home in the village, with a huge statue of Santa Claus wearing a white beard and surrounded by reindeer. In the Santa Claus Home, pictures depicting Christmas stories are painted on the wall. At night, the house is lit up by Christmas lights.
