A winter camp for Taiwan youth opened on Monday in advance of the upcoming 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics.

Hundreds of youngsters from mainland provinces, the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions, and Taiwan participated in the activities, which were organized by the All-China Federation of Taiwan Compatriots.

"We welcome young people from Taiwan to pursue and realize their dreams on the mainland. The federation will provide better services for them," Ji Bin, federation vice-chairman, said during the opening of the Beijing venue.

Chen Wen-cheng, who comes from Taiwan and is a physical education teacher at Peking University, said during the opening that he spoke about preparations for the Winter Olympics and the recruitment of volunteers to the people in Taiwan to let more know about the event. He also set up a Taiwan compatriots volunteer service team in Beijing.

The winter camp includes online courses on the new economy. Well-known internet enterprises like Alibaba and JD.com have been invited to raise the understanding of Taiwan youth on the mainland’s economic and social achievements.

Visits will take place to Beijing, Chongqing, Henan and Hubei provinces, during which Taiwan youth will visit Winter Olympic venues, youth innovation bases, Taiwan-funded enterprises and farms.

This is the 28th edition of the camp, which was first held in 1989. It has attracted more than 6,000 Taiwan youth to join since then.
