Jan 18: Daily briefing on novel coronavirus cases in China

On Jan 17, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 171 new cases of confirmed infections (44 imported cases, 17 in Shanghai municipality, 13 in Guangdong province, 4 in Yunnan province, 3 in Beijing municipality, 3 in Sichuan province, 1 in Liaoning province, 1 in Fujian province, 1 in Hunan province and 1 in Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, including 6 confirmed cases converting from asymptomatic cases, 3 in Guangdong, 1 in Liaoning, 1 in Hunan and 1 in Guangxi; 127 indigenous cases, 102 in Henan province including 94 in Anyang, 4 in Zhengzhou and 4 in Xuchang, 18 in Tianjin municipality including 15 in Jinnan district, 2 in Xiqing district and 1 in Hexi district, 5 in Zhuhai, Guangdong, 1 in Haidian district, Beijing and 1 in Xi’an, Shaanxi province), 3 new cases of suspected infections (all were imported cases in Shanghai), and no deaths. 135 patients were released from hospital after being cured. 3,050 people who had had close contact with infected patients were freed from medical observation. Serious cases decreased by 1.

As of 24:00 on Jan 17, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland had reported 12,168 cases of imported confirmed infections and no deaths. In all, 10,883 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 1,285 confirmed cases (without cases in serious condition) and 8 suspected cases.

As of 24:00 on Jan 17, the National Health Commission had received reports of 105,258 confirmed cases and 4,636 deaths in 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland, and in all 97,092 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 3,530 confirmed cases (including 14 cases in serious condition) and 8 suspected cases. 1,486,846 people had been identified as having had close contact with infected patients. 56,835 were still under medical observation.

On Jan 17, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 33 new asymptomatic cases (32 imported cases; 1 indigenous case in Dalian, Liaoning). 9 asymptomatic cases were freed from medical observation (all were imported cases) and 6 asymptomatic cases became confirmed cases (all were imported cases). As of 24:00 on Jan 17, 760 asymptomatic cases were still under medical observation (including 709 imported cases).

As of 24:00 on Jan 17, 30,831 confirmed infections had been reported in the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions and Taiwan province: 12,867 in Hong Kong (213 had died and 12,416 had been cured and discharged from hospital), 79 in Macao (77 had been cured and discharged from hospital) and 17,885 in Taiwan (851 had died and 13,742 had been cured and discharged from hospital).
