The average life expectancy of residents in Guangdong province is projected to surpass 79 by 2025, thanks to ever-increasing quality of life and people's health, according to a senior official with the local health authority.

"We have issued plans to further boost people's life quality in the next five years, covering areas of healthcare, life, service and insurance," said Zhu Hong, Party chief of the Health Commission of Guangdong Province.

According to Zhu, the average life expectancy of Guangdong residents increased from 77.1 years in 2015 to 78.4 in 2021.

Guangdong will develop more than three national-level medical centers, 15 regional medical centers and three national-level medical quality control centers by 2025, said Zhu.

"Construction of a number of high-end medical centers aims to provide efficient, high-quality medical services for residents," said Zhu during a press briefing on Wednesday in Guangzhou, the capital of Guangdong province.

The province will also introduce high-end medical scientists from overseas countries and regions and boost exchanges in medical resources with Hong Kong and Macao in the years ahead, according to Zhu.

Guangdong currently has a total of 11 certified traditional Chinese medicine doctors from Hong Kong and Macao working in the province, said Jin Wenjie, deputy director of the traditional Chinese medicine authority of Guangdong.
