Jan 7: Daily briefing on novel coronavirus cases in China

On Jan 6, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 174 new cases of confirmed infections (58 imported cases, 24 in Shanghai municipality, 9 in Tianjin municipality, 9 in Guangdong province, 4 in Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, 2 in Liaoning province, 2 in Henan province, 2 in Hunan province, 1 in Beijing municipality, 1 in Zhejiang province, 1 in Fujian province, 1 in Hubei province, 1 in Sichuan province and 1 in Yunnan province, including 5 confirmed cases converting from asymptomatic cases, 2 in Henan, 1 in Zhejiang, 1 in Guangdong and 1 in Sichuan; 116 indigenous cases, 57 in Xi’an, Shaanxi province, 56 in Henan including 28 in Xuchang, 26 in Zhengzhou, 1 in Luoyang and 1 in Gushi county, and 3 in Zhejiang including 2 in Ningbo and 1 in Jinhua, including 21 confirmed cases converting from asymptomatic cases, 20 in Henan and 1 in Zhejiang), 6 new cases of suspected infections (all were imported cases in Shanghai), and no deaths. 97 patients were released from hospital after being cured. 2,580 people who had had close contact with infected patients were freed from medical observation. The number of serious cases remained unchanged.

As of 24:00 on Jan 6, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland had reported 11,491 cases of imported confirmed infections and no deaths. In all, 10,513 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 978 confirmed cases (including 3 cases in serious condition) and 7 suspected cases.

As of 24:00 on Jan 6, the National Health Commission had received reports of 103,295 confirmed cases and 4,636 deaths in 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland, and in all 95,300 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 3,359 confirmed cases (including 30 cases in serious condition) and 7 suspected cases. 1,444,595 people had been identified as having had close contact with infected patients. 42,512 were still under medical observation.

On Jan 6, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 45 new asymptomatic cases (42 imported cases; 3 indigenous cases in Shanghai including 2 in Pudong New Area and 1 in Fengxian district). 16 asymptomatic cases were freed from medical observation (all were imported cases) and 26 asymptomatic cases became confirmed cases (including 5 imported cases). As of 24:00 on Jan 6, 632 asymptomatic cases were still under medical observation (including 604 imported cases).

As of 24:00 on Jan 6, 30,009 confirmed infections had been reported in the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions and Taiwan province: 12,732 in Hong Kong (213 had died and 12,235 had been cured and discharged from hospital), 79 in Macao (77 had been cured and discharged from hospital) and 17,198 in Taiwan (850 had died and 13,742 had been cured and discharged from hospital).
