Jan 1: Daily briefing on novel coronavirus cases in China

On Dec 31, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 231 new cases of confirmed infections (56 imported cases, 11 in Guangdong province, 10 in Shanghai municipality, 9 in Tianjin municipality, 9 in Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, 4 in Fujian province, 4 in Hunan province, 2 in Beijing municipality, 2 in Sichuan province, 2 in Yunnan province, 1 in Liaoning province, 1 in Shandong province and 1 in Shaanxi province, including 10 confirmed cases converting from asymptomatic cases, 4 in Hunan, 3 in Guangdong, 2 in Sichuan and 1 in Guangxi; 175 indigenous cases, 174 in Xi’an, Shaanxi, 1 in Tongren, Guizhou province, including 1 confirmed case converting from an asymptomatic case in Guizhou), 1 new case of suspected infections (an imported case in Shanghai), and no deaths. 59 patients were released from hospital after being cured. 5,351 people who had had close contact with infected patients were freed from medical observation. The number of serious cases remained unchanged.

As of 24:00 on Dec 31, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland had reported 11,139 cases of imported confirmed infections and no deaths. In all, 10,337 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 802 confirmed cases (including 3 cases in serious condition) and 1 suspected case.

As of 24:00 on Dec 31, the National Health Commission had received reports of 102,314 confirmed cases and 4,636 deaths in 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland, and in all 94,792 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 2,886 confirmed cases (including 15 cases in serious condition) and 1 suspected case. 1,423,756 people had been identified as having had close contact with infected patients. 43,874 were still under medical observation.

On Dec 31, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 38 new asymptomatic cases (33 imported cases; 5 indigenous cases, 4 in Luoyang, Henan province, 1 in Foshan, Guangdong). 25 asymptomatic cases were freed from medical observation (including 22 imported cases) and 11 asymptomatic cases became confirmed cases (including 10 imported cases). As of 24:00 on Dec 31, 514 asymptomatic cases were still under medical observation (including 485 imported cases).

As of 24:00 on Dec 31, 29,757 confirmed infections had been reported in the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions and Taiwan province: 12,649 in Hong Kong (213 had died and 12,206 had been cured and discharged from hospital), 79 in Macao (77 had been cured and discharged from hospital) and 17,029 in Taiwan (850 had died and 13,742 had been cured and discharged from hospital).
