Dec 24: Daily briefing on novel coronavirus cases in China

On Dec 23, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 87 new cases of confirmed infections (32 imported cases, 8 in Shanghai municipality, 5 in Hunan province, 4 in Guangdong province, 3 in Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, 3 in Sichuan province, 3 in Yunnan province, 2 in Shaanxi province, 2 in Gansu province, 1 in Inner Mongolia autonomous region and 1 in Liaoning province, including 3 confirmed cases converting from asymptomatic cases in Sichuan; 55 indigenous cases, 52 in Shaanxi including 49 in Xi'an, 2 in Yan'an and 1 in Xianyang, 1 in Shaoxing, Zhejiang province, 1 in Dongguan, Guangdong and 1 in Fangchenggang, Guangxi), 6 new cases of suspected infections (all were imported cases in Shanghai), and no deaths. 59 patients were released from hospital after being cured. 3,069 people who had had close contact with infected patients were freed from medical observation. Serious cases decreased by 1.

As of 24:00 on Dec 23, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland had reported 10,793 cases of imported confirmed infections and no deaths. In all, 10,125 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 668 confirmed cases (including 3 cases in serious condition) and 8 suspected cases.

As of 24:00 on Dec 23, the National Health Commission had received reports of 100,731 confirmed cases and 4,636 deaths in 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland, and in all 94,244 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 1,851 confirmed cases (including 9 cases in serious condition) and 8 suspected cases. 1,401,028 people had been identified as having had close contact with infected patients. 56,557 were still under medical observation.

On Dec 23, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 26 new asymptomatic cases (25 imported cases; 1 indigenous case in Yuncheng, Shanxi province). 22 asymptomatic cases were freed from medical observation (including 19 imported cases) and 3 (imported cases) became confirmed cases. As of 24:00 on Dec 23, 497 asymptomatic cases were still under medical observation (including 461 imported cases).

As of 24:00 on Dec 23, 29,480 confirmed infections had been reported in the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions and Taiwan province: 12,550 in Hong Kong (213 had died and 12,186 had been cured and discharged from hospital), 77 in Macao (all had been cured and discharged from hospital) and 16,853 in Taiwan (850 had died and 13,742 had been cured and discharged from hospital).
