Yunluo (a set of gongs) is an ancient Chinese instrument made of copper that generates sound with a small mallet.
Gongs with different sizes and pitches are put together to make a yunluo, which broadens the music range and allows for the creation of more diverse music.
In what performances are yunluo commonly used? How do the gongs with different sizes sound differently? In this session, percussionist Tong Shengyuan from China National Opera and Dance Drama Theater will introduce us to this musical instrument and the way to play it.
