The penetration rate of 5G in China is expected to exceed 30 percent by the end of this year and this will usher in new growth opportunities, the Global System for Mobile Communications Association said. The body is known by its acronym, GSMA.

A report by GSMA showed that China's 5G connections hit 430 million by the end of the September quarter, accounting for 78 percent of the world's total.

Sihan Bo Chen, the China head of GSMA, said under the background of the rapid global 5G deployment, the revenue structure of global operators has changed.

In addition to traditional telecommunications sales, revenue from new services has increased significantly. The revenue growth of Chinese telecom operators has been particularly impressive.

The growth also came in the middle of accelerated digital transformation during the COVID-19 pandemic.

GSMA said it is working with industrial partners to promote the application of 5G in a wide range of sectors. GSMA will hold an innovation forum in Shenzhen, Guangdong province on December 1.

Data from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology showed the integrative development of "5G plus industrial internet" is on a fast track in China.

At this time, more than 1,800 "5G plus industrial internet" projects are under construction in China, covering 10 important industries such as mining, coal and electricity.

More than 100 influential industrial internet platforms have also been built.
