China-donated anti-pandemic supplies arrive in Trinidad and Tobago

A new shipment of anti-pandemic materials donated by the Chinese government to Trinidad and Tobago arrived in Port of Spain, capital of the Caribbean nation, on Oct 27.

Trinidad and Tobago Health Minister Terrence Deyalsingh and other officials welcomed the materials at the airport. Chinese Ambassador Fang Qiu to Trinidad and Tobago attended the handover ceremony and gave remarks.

Fang said COVID-19 is a common challenge for all mankind, and more than ever, countries around the world need to be work together and help each other. The Chinese government is committed to promoting the building of a global community of health for all.

China has launched the longest and most extensive emergency humanitarian relief operation since the founding of the People's Republic of China, providing material assistance to more than 150 countries and 13 international organizations to combat the pandemic.

So far this year, China has provided more than 1.5 billion vaccine doses to 106 countries and 4 international organizations, and will strive to provide 2 billion doses to foreign countries throughout the year. It has played an important role in preventing and controlling COVID-19 and leading international cooperation in fighting the pandemic, Fang said.

Since the outbreak of COVID-19, China and Trinidad and Tobago have stood by each other and joined hands to fight the pandemic, fully demonstrating the friendship between the two peoples. At present, the pandemic is raging around the world, including in Trinidad and Tobago. China rushed to provide a new shipment of urgently needed anti-pandemic material assistance, hoping to inject more "Chinese strength" into anti-pandemic efforts of Trinidad and Tobago, said Fang.

China is willing to continue to uphold the concept of building a community with a shared future for mankind and work hand in hand with Trinidad and Tobago until the pandemic is finally overcome and a better future is built together, he said.

On behalf of the government and people of Trinidad and Tobago, Deyalsingh expressed his sincere gratitude to the Chinese government for once again providing assistance to his country in fighting the pandemic.

Deyalsingh said China has provided several shipments of medical materials to his country since last year. China's donation of 100,000 vaccine doses and active assistance to Trinidad and Tobago in procuring 1 million doses of Chinese vaccines at the most critical moment of the pandemic have highlighted the sincere friendship that both sides have and proved that China is a trustworthy friend and a good partner.

This time, China mobilized resources in a short time and donated urgent anti-pandemic supplies to Trinidad and Tobago, which will greatly help the country fight the pandemic and protect people's lives and health, Deyalsingh said.

Trinidad and Tobago is willing to further strengthen cooperation with China in various fields, including the anti-pandemic fight, and promote the comprehensive partnership between the two countries to achieve greater development, Deyalsingh added.
