Initiated by Emperor Xuanzong (r.712-56) of the Tang Dynasty (618-907), the Liyuan Garden was the first imperial music conservatory in ancient China, aiding in the flourishing of the performing arts in that period.

Established on the site of the conservatory’s ruins, the Liyuan Site Museum in Xi’an, Shaanxi province, showcases unearthed relics, including ceramic figurines and wall paintings, along with multimedia displays, drawing a vivid description of its past glory.
