Oct 21: Daily briefing on novel coronavirus cases in China

On Oct 20, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 21 new cases of confirmed infections (8 imported cases, 6 in Shanghai municipality, 1 in Henan province and 1 in Guangdong province, including 1 confirmed case converting from an asymptomatic case in Henan; 13 indigenous cases, 5 in Gansu province including 4 in Lanzhou and 1 in Zhangye, 4 in Ningxia Hui autonomous region including 2 in Wuzhong and 2 in Yinchuan, 2 in Xiliin Gol League, Inner Mongolia autonomous region, and 2 in a county-level administrative division directly under the jurisdiction of Hubei province, including 1 confirmed case converting from an asymptomatic case in Gansu), no new cases of suspected infections, and no deaths. 34 patients were released from hospital after being cured. 1,300 people who had had close contact with infected patients were freed from medical observation. Serious cases decreased by 1.

As of 24:00 on Oct 20, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland had reported 9,459 cases of imported confirmed infections and no deaths. In all, 9,038 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 421 confirmed cases (without cases in serious condition) and 1 suspected case.

As of 24:00 on Oct 20, the National Health Commission had received reports of 96,622 confirmed cases and 4,636 deaths in 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland, and in all 91,494 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 492 confirmed cases (without cases in serious condition) and 1 suspected case. 1,218,545 people had been identified as having had close contact with infected patients. 22,383 were still under medical observation.

On Oct 20, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 27 new asymptomatic cases (20 imported cases; 7 indigenous cases, 3 in Dehong Dai and Jingpo autonomous prefecture, Yunnan province, 2 in Xingtai, Hebei province, 1 in Changsha, Hunan province and 1 in Zunyi, Guizhou province). 9 asymptomatic cases were freed from medical observation (including 6 imported cases) and 2 asymptomatic cases became confirmed cases (including 1 imported case). As of 24:00 on Oct 20, 372 asymptomatic cases were still under medical observation (including 352 imported cases).

As of 24:00 on Oct 20, 28,729 confirmed infections had been reported in the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions and Taiwan province: 12,305 in Hong Kong (213 had died and 12,003 had been cured and discharged from hospital), 77 in Macao (66 had been cured and discharged from hospital) and 16,347 in Taiwan (846 had died and 13,742 had been cured and discharged from hospital).
