Aug 21: Daily briefing on novel coronavirus cases in China

On Aug 20, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 20 new cases of confirmed infections (16 imported cases, 4 in Guangdong province, 3 in Yunnan province, 2 in Beijing municipality, 2 in Shanghai municipality, 2 in Zhejiang province, 1 in Tianjin municipality, 1 in Inner Mongolia autonomous region and 1 in Fujian province; 4 indigenous cases, 2 in Shanghai, 1 in Jiangsu province and 1 in Hubei province), no new cases of suspected infections, and no deaths. 51 patients were released from hospital after being cured. 3,275 people who had had close contact with infected patients were freed from medical observation. Serious cases decreased by 21.

As of 24:00 on Aug 20, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland had reported 8,056 cases of imported confirmed infections and no deaths. In all, 7,317 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 739 confirmed cases (including 11 cases in serious condition) and 2 suspected cases.

As of 24:00 on Aug 20, the National Health Commission had received reports of 94,599 confirmed cases and 4,636 deaths in 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland, and in all 88,177 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 1,786 confirmed cases (including 33 cases in serious condition) and 2 suspected cases. 1,155,895 people had been identified as having had close contact with infected patients. 38,133 were still under medical observation.

On Aug 20, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 20 new asymptomatic cases (all were imported cases). 26 asymptomatic cases were freed from medical observation (including 21 imported cases) and 3 (imported cases) became confirmed cases. As of 24:00 on Aug 20, 508 asymptomatic cases were still under medical observation (including 414 imported cases).

As of 24:00 on Aug 20, 28,018 confirmed infections had been reported in the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions and Taiwan province: 12,049 in Hong Kong (212 had died and 11,761 had been cured and discharged from hospital), 63 in Macao (59 had been cured and discharged from hospital) and 15,906 in Taiwan (827 had died and 13,550 had been cured and discharged from hospital).
