Aug 8: Daily briefing on novel coronavirus cases in China

On Aug 7, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 96 new cases of confirmed infections (15 imported cases, 6 in Shanghai municipality, 4 in Yunnan province, 3 in Guangdong province and 2 in Sichuan province; 81 indigenous cases, 38 in Jiangsu province, 24 in Henan province, 7 in Yunnan, 6 in Hubei province and 6 in Hunan province), 3 new cases of suspected infections (all were imported cases in Shanghai), and no deaths. 33 patients were released from hospital after being cured. 2,150 people who had had close contact with infected patients were freed from medical observation. Serious cases increased by 5.

As of 24:00 on Aug 7, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland had reported 7,643 cases of imported confirmed infections and no deaths. In all, 6,929 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 714 confirmed cases (including 13 cases in serious condition) and 3 suspected cases.

As of 24:00 on Aug 7, the National Health Commission had received reports of 93,701 confirmed cases and 4,636 deaths in 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland, and in all 87,558 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 1,507 confirmed cases (including 44 cases in serious condition) and 4 suspected cases. 1,123,517 people had been identified as having had close contact with infected patients. 46,014 were still under medical observation.

On Aug 7, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 30 new asymptomatic cases (25 imported cases; 5 indigenous cases, 3 in Hubei and 2 in Henan). 22 asymptomatic cases were freed from medical observation (all were imported cases) and 24 asymptomatic cases became confirmed cases (including 1 imported case). As of 24:00 on Aug 7, 555 asymptomatic cases were still under medical observation (including 390 imported cases).

As of 24:00 on Aug 7, 27,849 confirmed infections had been reported in the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions and Taiwan province: 12,011 in Hong Kong (212 had died and 11,725 had been cured and discharged from hospital), 63 in Macao (57 had been cured and discharged from hospital) and 15,775 in Taiwan (806 had died and 13,053 had been cured and discharged from hospital).
