Sanya develops tourism with cultural characteristics

In order to develop cultural tourism, the city of Sanya deeply explored the local cultural resources such as the Li and Miao ethnic groups, the history of the revolution, and launched a series of high-end cultural tourism projects with local characteristics.

Beginning in March this year, the Sanya Qianguqing Performance Park has made adjustments to the newly built Li and Miao village, the forest theater, the children's playground, and the Li and Miao style dress-up photo studio.

Shijing Street in the village is the largest intangible cultural heritage gathering spot in Sanya, hosting intangible cultural legacies such as the Li brocade, pottery, and music. The Li, Miao, Hui, and Dan themed workshops along the street have changed from single workshops in the past into an all-in-one experience integrating display, sales, and leisure.

In Zhongliao village, visitors can witness local villagers' singing and dancing performances as well as enjoy authentic Li culture in the beautiful countryside.

Mai Yalian is a villager in Zhongliao village. She displays Li brocade weaving in her courtyard every day, and teaches visitors about the Li culture. "I think the ethnic culture should be carried forward," said a tourist surnamed Li from Northeast China's Heilongjiang province.

The Red Detachment of Women Performing Arts Park integrates forms of large-scale traditional performances, historical and cultural exhibitions, and a Hainan folk culture experience. Also, new technology has brought the legend of the Hainan heroines back to life with stage technology such as holographic laser projection, naked-eye 3D, three-dimensional blasting, and lifting screens.

"We are planning to build a museum cluster, displaying Sanya's history, culture, ethnic culture, and intangible cultural heritage," said Zhu Jingwei, an official of the Sanya municipal bureau of tourism, culture, radio, television and sports. Sanya will promote the transformation and upgrading of the cultural tourism industry, and build a tourism city with cultural characteristics, he added.
