Every year, summer is peak season for tourism in the Tibet autonomous region, and it's booming right now, China News Service reported.

From January to June, tourism service centers in Nyingchi, one of the region's popular places for tourism, handled more than 5 million tourist visits, an increase of 10.9 percent from the same period in 2019, before the pandemic. It took in revenues of 3.93 billion yuan, a jump of more than 7 percent over the same period in 2019.

Commercial aviation has been a leading force. During the first half of this year, Tibet has had more than 29,800 takeoffs and landings, with the region's flight passenger volume surpassing 3 million, and its cargo volume rising to 24,500 metric tons, according to the Tibet bureau of the Civil Aviation Administration of China.

Over the last six months, increases have been logged for takeoffs and landings (18.7 percent), passengers (13 percent) and cargo volume (30.6 percent), compared with the same period in 2019, the bureau said.

On May 1 this year, Lhasa Gonggar International Airport set a record takeoffs and landings in a single day —155. The airport's daily passenger volume increased dramatically in the summer season. Daily passenger throughput hit 19,600 on July 10 and 21,100 on July 16.
