The Tibet autonomous region expects 61 million tourist visits and tourism revenue of 64 billion yuan ($10 billion) annually by 2025, Tibet Daily reported.

The region said it will work to boost tourism during the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25), with more than 600,000 individuals expected to benefit from the industry by 2025, including a large number of rural residents.

Last year, the region’s rural tourism service centers handled more than 10 million tourist visits and took in revenue of 1.2 billion yuan.

More than 125,000 of the region’s rural residents had job opportunities related to tourism in 2020, generating a total income of 630 million yuan.

The region also expects by 2025 to increase the number of scenic spots to three 5A-level, 20 at 4A, 45 at 3A, and add two national-level and 10 provincial-level holiday resorts.

Additionally, it plans to build and upgrade 20 townships for tourism and build 400 other tourist spots.
