The embroidery works of the Tibetan ethnic group generally present natural colors, and often match black with red, yellow, green or white, or black-and-white with red, yellow and green. Their fine embroidery techniques, free from the restrictions of warps and wefts, are suitable for completing patterns of flowers and grasses. Mainly used to decorate headscarves and aprons, they are also known for soft texture, exquisite and simple designs and strong color contrast.

Tibetan embroidery reflects the beauty of nature and intriguing ethnic characters with great decorative functions. For instance, its square-spiral patterns and ripple motifs originate from ancient cord patterns; the composition techniques of thangka art also inspire these embroidered productions.
