Art institutions including the China Philharmonic Orchestra, the UCCA Center for Contemporary Art, Art Beijing and Ye Yushan Art Museum will join in the culture center located at the Tianfu New Area in the city of Meishan, about 60 kilometers south of Chengdu, capital city of Sichuan province.
The cultural complex will be finished in the next few years and will invite more well-known international art institutions to join in, said Chairman of Sunwah Group Jonathan Choi Koon-shum on June 17 when the cultural center project was announced.
"I hope it will contribute to cultural exchanges for Sichuan province and China," Choi adds.
Philip Tinari, director of the UCCA Center for Contemporary Art, said that it's the fourth branch for the Beijing-based art institution in China. The two other branches are in Shanghai and Beidaihe, a resort town in Hebei province.
Li Nan, director of China Philharmonic Orchestra, said it's a good try for the orchestra to set up a concert hall in Sichuan, a province known for its tourism and culture industries.
