Human Horizons expects deliveries of its HiPhi X SUV to exceed 1,000 in July, said its founder and chairman Ding Lei at the 13th China Auto Bluebook Forum held in Hefei, Anhui province.

The startup, which Ding founded in 2017, started to deliver the model in May, and three-digit deliveries are expected to be made this month.

Ding said 65 percent of those who paid a deposit have turned into its customers. The HiPhi X, priced between 600,000 yuan to 800,000 yuan, is the most expensive model from Chinese electric car startups.

Ding said the industry is undergoing fundamental changes. For instance, new vehicles are envisioned on the software architecture, and carmakers should focus on creating experiences instead of just piling up functions.

He said the HiPhi X, thanks to its gulf wing doors, is becoming a popular choice to pick up brides, as it is easier for them to get on and off considering their wedding gowns.

Ding said the company did not expect this when designing the model.

He stressed the need to communicate with users because they can help improve the products. “We are in direct contact with at least 30 percent of our users,” said Ding.
