May 16: Daily briefing on novel coronavirus cases in China

On May 15, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 18 new cases of confirmed infections (14 imported cases, 5 in Guangdong province, 3 in Yunnan province, 2 in Shanghai municipality, 1 in Inner Mongolia autonomous region, 1 in Henan province, 1 in Sichuan province and 1 in Shaanxi province; 4 indigenous cases in Liaoning province), 1 new case of suspected infections (an imported case in Shanghai), and no deaths. 6 patients were released from hospital after being cured. 336 people who had had close contact with infected patients were freed from medical observation. The number of serious cases remained unchanged.
As of 24:00 on May 15, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland had reported 5,838 cases of imported confirmed infections and no deaths. In all, 5,576 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 262 confirmed cases (including 1 case in serious condition) and 2 suspected cases.
As of 24:00 on May 15, the National Health Commission had received reports of 90,847 confirmed cases and 4,636 deaths in 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland, and in all 85,920 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 291 confirmed cases (including 1 case in serious condition) and 2 suspected cases. 1,014,784 people had been identified as having had close contact with infected patients. 5,659 were still under medical observation.
On May 15, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 19 new asymptomatic cases (14 imported cases; 5 indigenous cases in Liaoning). 12 asymptomatic cases were freed from medical observation (including 10 imported cases) and 2 (imported cases) became confirmed cases. As of 24:00 on May 15, 346 asymptomatic cases were still under medical observation (including 328 imported cases).
As of 24:00 on May 15, 13,345 confirmed infections had been reported in the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions and Taiwan province: 11,821 in Hong Kong (210 had died and 11,522 had been cured and discharged from hospital), 49 in Macao (all had been cured and discharged from hospital) and 1,475 in Taiwan (12 had died and 1,116 had been cured and discharged from hospital).
