May 8: Daily briefing on novel coronavirus cases in China

On May 7, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 7 new cases of confirmed infections (all were imported cases, 2 in Shanghai municipality, 1 in Tianjin municipality, 1 in Zhejiang province, 1 in Hunan province, 1 in Chongqing municipality and 1 in Shaanxi province), 4 new cases of suspected infections (all were imported cases in Shanghai), and no deaths. 15 patients were released from hospital after being cured. 288 people who had had close contact with infected patients were freed from medical observation. Serious cases decreased by 2.
As of 24:00 on May 7, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland had reported 5,748 cases of imported confirmed infections and no deaths. In all, 5,477 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 271 confirmed cases (including 1 case in serious condition) and 4 suspected cases.
As of 24:00 on May 7, the National Health Commission had received reports of 90,746 confirmed cases and 4,636 deaths in 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland, and in all 85,810 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 300 confirmed cases (including 1 case in serious condition) and 4 suspected cases. 1,010,671 people had been identified as having had close contact with infected patients. 5,769 were still under medical observation.
On May 7, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 8 new asymptomatic cases (all were imported cases). 11 asymptomatic cases were freed from medical observation (all were imported cases) and 2 (imported cases) became confirmed cases. As of 24:00 on May 7, 313 asymptomatic cases were still under medical observation (including 306 imported cases).
As of 24:00 on May 7, 13,028 confirmed infections had been reported in the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions and Taiwan province: 11,801 in Hong Kong (210 had died and 11,473 had been cured and discharged from hospital), 49 in Macao (all had been cured and discharged from hospital) and 1,178 in Taiwan (12 had died and 1,077 had been cured and discharged from hospital).
