April 21: Daily briefing on novel coronavirus cases in China

On April 20, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 21 new cases of confirmed infections (19 imported cases, 12 in Hainan province, 3 in Shanghai municipality, 2 in Tianjin municipality, 1 in Guangdong province and 1 in Sichuan province; 2 indigenous cases in Yunnan province), no new cases of suspected infections, and no deaths. 27 patients were released from hospital after being cured. 445 people who had had close contact with infected patients were freed from medical observation. Serious cases increased by 1.
As of 24:00 on April 20, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland had reported 5,543 cases of imported confirmed infections and no deaths. In all, 5,299 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 244 confirmed cases (including 6 cases in serious condition) and 1 suspected case.
As of 24:00 on April 20, the National Health Commission had received reports of 90,541 confirmed cases and 4,636 deaths in 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland, and in all 85,600 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 305 confirmed cases (including 6 cases in serious condition) and 1 suspected case. 1,004,270 people had been identified as having had close contact with infected patients. 11,348 were still under medical observation.
On April 20, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 7 new asymptomatic cases (all were imported cases). 12 asymptomatic cases were freed from medical observation (including 11 imported cases) and no asymptomatic cases became confirmed cases. As of 24:00 on April 20, 311 asymptomatic cases were still under medical observation (including 298 imported cases).
As of 24:00 on April 20, 12,830 confirmed infections had been reported in the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions and Taiwan province: 11,703 in Hong Kong (209 had died and 11,287 had been cured and discharged from hospital), 49 in Macao (48 had been cured and discharged from hospital) and 1,078 in Taiwan (11 had died and 1,038 had been cured and discharged from hospital).
