April 18: Daily briefing on novel coronavirus cases in China

On April 17, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 16 new cases of confirmed infections (all were imported cases, 4 in Guangdong province, 4 in Shaanxi province, 2 in Shanghai municipality, 2 in Sichuan province, 1 in Inner Mongolia autonomous region, 1 in Fujian province, 1 in Henan province and 1 in Yunnan province), 1 new case of suspected infections (an imported case in Shanghai), and no deaths. 11 patients were released from hospital after being cured. 493 people who had had close contact with infected patients were freed from medical observation. Serious cases increased by 1.
As of 24:00 on April 17, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland had reported 5,504 cases of imported confirmed infections and no deaths. In all, 5,268 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 236 confirmed cases (including 4 cases in serious condition) and 3 suspected cases.
As of 24:00 on April 17, the National Health Commission had received reports of 90,499 confirmed cases and 4,636 deaths in 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland, and in all 85,549 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 314 confirmed cases (including 5 cases in serious condition) and 3 suspected cases. 1,002,318 people had been identified as having had close contact with infected patients. 10,408 were still under medical observation.
On April 17, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 15 new asymptomatic cases (all were imported cases). 17 asymptomatic cases were freed from medical observation (including 16 imported cases) and 4 (imported cases) became confirmed cases. As of 24:00 on April 17, 320 asymptomatic cases were still under medical observation (including 304 imported cases).
As of 24:00 on April 17, 12,774 confirmed infections had been reported in the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions and Taiwan province: 11,653 in Hong Kong (209 had died and 11,258 had been cured and discharged from hospital), 49 in Macao (48 had been cured and discharged from hospital) and 1,072 in Taiwan (11 had died and 1,033 had been cured and discharged from hospital).
