FAW-Toyota launched its latest plug-in hybrid, the RAV 4 E+, on April 17 in Yunnan province in partnership with Top Gear, the famed British motoring magazine.

It is the joint venture’s first plug-in hybrid SUV. The model, available in three variants, is priced from 248,800 yuan to 296,800 yuan.

Sporting a 2.5-liter powertrain and a 134-kw electric motor, the plug-in hybrid can finish the zero-100 km/hour sprint in 7.4 seconds.

On the electric mode, the vehicle can run for 95 kilometers thanks to its 18.1-kWh battery.

It can also serve as a 220-v power outlet to charge other electric devices and thus make it easier to enjoy outdoor activities.

The model is equipped with the E-Four electric four-wheel-drive system and the turning radius is cut to 5.5 meters.

Before the arrival of the RAV 4 E+, the SUV is already available in the conventional internal combustion engine version and the hybrid version.

And their facelift models were released at the same event.

Seven variants of the ICE RAV 4, priced from 175,800 yuan to 226,800 yuan, were launched, and three hybrid variants, priced from 225,800 yuan to 259,800 yuan, are now available as well.

The carmaker said there are more vehicles to come this year, as it continues to introduce models built based on Toyota’s TNGA platform.
