April 17: Daily briefing on novel coronavirus cases in China

On April 16, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 15 new cases of confirmed infections (14 imported cases, 3 in Shanghai municipality, 3 in Guangdong province, 2 in Tianjin municipality, 2 in Sichuan province, 2 in Shaanxi province, 1 in Inner Mongolia autonomous region and 1 in Zhejiang province; 1 indigenous case in Yunnan province), no new cases of suspected infections, and no deaths. 5 patients were released from hospital after being cured. 437 people who had had close contact with infected patients were freed from medical observation. Serious cases decreased by 1.
As of 24:00 on April 16, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland had reported 5,488 cases of imported confirmed infections and no deaths. In all, 5,259 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 229 confirmed cases (including 3 cases in serious condition) and 2 suspected cases.
As of 24:00 on April 16, the National Health Commission had received reports of 90,483 confirmed cases and 4,636 deaths in 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland, and in all 85,538 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 309 confirmed cases (including 4 cases in serious condition) and 2 suspected cases. 1,002,045 people had been identified as having had close contact with infected patients. 10,628 were still under medical observation.
On April 16, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 19 new asymptomatic cases (all were imported cases). 10 asymptomatic cases were freed from medical observation (including 8 imported cases) and 2 (imported cases) became confirmed cases. As of 24:00 on April 16, 326 asymptomatic cases were still under medical observation (including 309 imported cases).
As of 24:00 on April 16, 12,754 confirmed infections had been reported in the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions and Taiwan province: 11,635 in Hong Kong (209 had died and 11,253 had been cured and discharged from hospital), 49 in Macao (48 had been cured and discharged from hospital) and 1,070 in Taiwan (11 had died and 1,032 had been cured and discharged from hospital).
