China's largest SUV maker Great Wall Motors would offer Level 4 autonomous driving in complex traffic situations in the country by 2022.
This is part of the company's efforts in smart driving as the automotive industry is undergoing great changes across the globe.
Cheng Bo, director of Tsinghua University's Suzhou Auto Institute, said the three industries of cars, transportation and internet communication will interact with each other and carmakers need to get ready for the changes.
Zhang Kai, an executive in charge of Great Wall Motors' smart driving, said the car will become something that feature four wheels and one super computer.
"If you miss the smart mobility tool, you will miss a whole era," said Zhang.
The company said its smart driving system, called Smart Coffee, will be industry leading in terms of smart architecture, smart driving and learning abilitiies.
It calls the Smart Coffee system the "digital engine" of its transition to a global mobility company.
Great Wall Motors started its transformation into a global tech-based mobility company in July 2020.
It has since launched different platforms and initiatives to build a smart mobility system.
