Chinese electric car startup Human Horizons will start to deliver its HiPhi X, a supercar-inspired SUV, starting from May 2021.

The startup made the statement last week when it organized a tour of its plant in Yancheng, Jiangsu province, where the model will be produced.

Human Horizons has built a team of over 2,000 professionals from 17 countries and regions and has inked deals with world-classing suppliers including Bosch, Continental, Microsoft and CATL.

The Yancheng plant was built on the basis of a Kia plant in the city, featuring the latest technology such as 5G and cloud computing as well as the state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities, including 130 Kuka robots.

The flexible production line enables precise and customized production. The company said trial production started in October 2020.

The HiPhi X SUV hit the market in late September 2020, and over 3,000 orders had been received by the end of January, and more than 32,000 potential customers expressed their intention to have a test drive, said the carmaker.

Human Horizons said it would build a sales and service network of at least 100 outlets in 17 cities in the country, and seven cities including Beijing, Shanghai as well as Guangzhou and Shenzhen in Guangdong province will be in the first batch.

The startup is working in terms of charging pillars as well. In collaboration with TELD, it plans to build a network of around 57,000 pillars accessible in 300 cities across the country.
