Hainan welcomes 36 famous universities over three years

Hainan achieved major breakthroughs in terms of the province's education sector and the construction of Hainan International Education Innovation Island in 2020, with the quality of education at all levels and of all types seeing great improvements.
There were 38 new compulsory education schools in Hainan in 2020 - including those which have undergone renovation and expansion - offering 34,000 new school places for students across the island.
According to statistics, since April 13, 2018, the province has signed agreements to welcome 36 famous universities and 51 well-known primary and secondary schools, from China and abroad. A total of 110 education projects were signed, and 400 projects were launched with a total investment of nearly 30 billion yuan ($4.63 billion).
In terms of pre-school education, Hainan strived to ensure that the proportion of children enrolled in public kindergartens, and the coverage of inclusive kindergartens, increased from 24.5 percent and 64.1 percent in 2019 to 53.31 percent and 86.62 percent respectively in 2020.
For vocational education, Hainan continued to promote six reform projects and completed the enrollment of 23,000 students. In terms of higher education, Hainan focused on the needs of Hainan Free Trade Port construction, optimized disciplines and majors, improved student employment services, and realized a college graduate employment rate of 50.02 percent.
During the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-25), four well-known universities will open schools in Hainan, including the Ocean University of China, Zhejiang University, the Communication University of China, and Shanghai Jiao Tong University.
In 2021, Hainan's education system will stand as a benchmark for the national strategy and the needs of the Hainan FTP. The province will build a high-quality public education service system, promote the development of vocational education, advance the quality and innovation of higher education, promote poverty relief and rural revitalization through education, and continuously enhance the people's sense of achievement in education.
