SAIC Maxus saw its overall sales soar 17.16 percent year-on-year in 2020, becoming one of the few Chinese carmakers that saw positive growth in a market that has been affected by the COVID-19.

The China Association of Automobile Manufacturers had estimated that the overall Chinese market would fall by around 3 percent to 25 million vehicles in 2020.

Statistics from SAIC Maxus showed that it delivered 147,209 vehicles last year, of which 31887 were sold in overseas markets.

After nine years of development, SAIC Maxus now has five vehicle platforms as well as architectures for new energy vehicles and recreational vehicles, which has been boosting its sales. In December, it sold 21,557 vehicles.

The trio of the V80, the V80 Plus and the V90 wide-bodied light buses had a combined sales volume of 59,706 in the year, up 83.8 percent year-on-year.

They had kept the accolade of the segment's champion for eight months in a row.
