On Jan 4, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 33 new cases of confirmed infections (16 imported cases, 6 in Shanghai municipality, 4 in Guangdong province, 1 in Tianjin municipality, 1 in Liaoning province, 1 in Jiangsu province, 1 in Fujian province, 1 in Henan province and 1 in Sichuan province; 17 indigenous cases, 14 in Hebei province, 2 in Liaoning and 1 in Beijing municipality), no new cases of suspected infections, and no deaths. 12 patients were released from hospital after being cured. 312 people who had had close contact with infected patients were freed from medical observation. As of 24:00 on Jan 4, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland had reported 4,339 cases of imported confirmed infections and no deaths. In all, 4,045 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 294 confirmed cases (including 5 cases in serious condition) and 1 suspected case.

As of 24:00 on Jan 4, the National Health Commission had received reports of 87,183 confirmed cases and 4,634 deaths in 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland, and in all 82,117 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 432 confirmed cases (including 13 cases in serious condition) and 1 suspected case. 910,833 people had been identified as having had close contact with infected patients. 16,769 were still under medical observation.

On Jan 4, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 37 new asymptomatic cases (including 6 imported cases). 8 asymptomatic cases were freed from medical observation (including 4 imported cases) and 5 asymptomatic cases became confirmed cases (including 2 imported cases). As of 24:00 on Jan 4, 318 asymptomatic cases were still under medical observation (including 240 imported cases).

As of 24:00 on Jan 4, 9,878 confirmed infections had been reported in the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions and Taiwan province: 9,017 in Hong Kong (153 had died and 8,055 had been cured and discharged from hospital), 46 in Macao (all had been cured and discharged from hospital) and 815 in Taiwan (7 had died and 696 had been cured and discharged from hospital).
