Jan 3: Daily briefing on novel coronavirus cases in China

On Jan 2, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 24 new cases of confirmed infections (16 imported cases, 6 in Shanghai municipality, 2 in Fujian province, 2 in Guangdong province, 2 in Shaanxi province, 1 in Beijing municipality, 1 in Tianjin municipality, 1 in Inner Mongolia autonomous region and 1 in Liaoning province; 8 indigenous cases, 4 in Heilongjiang province, 2 in Liaoning, 1 in Beijing and 1 in Hebei province), no new cases of suspected infections, and no deaths. 12 patients were released from hospital after being cured. 960 people who had had close contact with infected patients were freed from medical observation. Serious cases decreased by 1.

As of 24:00 on Jan 2, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland had reported 4,303 cases of imported confirmed infections and no deaths. In all, 4,024 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 279 confirmed cases (including 3 cases in serious condition) and 1 suspected case.

As of 24:00 on Jan 2, the National Health Commission had received reports of 87,117 confirmed cases and 4,634 deaths in 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland, and in all 82,088 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 395 confirmed cases (including 9 cases in serious condition) and 1 suspected case. 907,460 people had been identified as having had close contact with infected patients. 14,175 were still under medical observation.

On Jan 2, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 8 new asymptomatic cases (all were imported cases). 14 asymptomatic cases were freed from medical observation (including 11 imported cases) and 5 asymptomatic cases became confirmed cases (including 1 imported case). As of 24:00 on Jan 2, 269 asymptomatic cases were still under medical observation (including 225 imported cases).

As of 24:00 on Jan 2, 9,777 confirmed infections had been reported in the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions and Taiwan province: 8,923 in Hong Kong (150 had died and 7,968 had been cured and discharged from hospital), 46 in Macao (all had been cured and discharged from hospital) and 808 in Taiwan (7 had died and 686 had been cured and discharged from hospital).
