China's largest SUV and pickup maker Great Wall Motors has set an ambitious goal to offer Level 4 autonomous driving functions by 2023.

It will start to offer Level 3 functions in 2021 with redundant systems to ensure safety, and the Wey models will the first to feature such functions.

These are part of a smart driving campaign it released on Wednesday. It also aspires to develop the largest fleet with smart driving functions within three years.

At the same event, Great Wall Motors announced partnership with US chipmaker Qualcomm and Chinese tech company Huawei to develop autonomous driving functions for different models.

Qualcomm's Snapdragon Ride platform will start to equip Great Wall Motors' high-end models starting from 2022.

The carmaker said, its system powered by the Snapdragon Ride Platform, can offer Level 3 autonomous functions and has enough computing capacity for Level 4 and 5 functions.

Huawei is offering its MDC 160 system, which will serve as an auto-grade brain that aims to offer Level 3 and 4 functions.

Great Wall Motors started its transformation into a global tech-based mobility company in July 2020. It has since launched different platforms and initiatives to build a smart mobility system.
