Dec 8: Daily briefing on novel coronavirus cases in China

On Dec 7, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 12 new cases of confirmed infections (10 imported cases, 4 in Shanghai municipality, 3 in Guangdong province and 3 in Sichuan province; 2 indigenous cases in Sichuan), 1 new case of suspected infections (an imported case in Shanghai), and no deaths. 13 patients were released from hospital after being cured. 301 people who had had close contact with infected patients were freed from medical observation. The number of serious cases remained unchanged.
As of 24:00 on Dec 7, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland had reported 3,958 cases of imported confirmed infections and no deaths. In all, 3,716 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 242 confirmed cases (including 3 cases in serious condition) and 2 suspected cases.
As of 24:00 on Dec 7, the National Health Commission had received reports of 86,646 confirmed cases and 4,634 deaths in 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland, and in all 81,732 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 280 confirmed cases (including 6 cases in serious condition) and 3 suspected cases. 884,319 people had been identified as having had close contact with infected patients. 6,114 were still under medical observation.
On Dec 7, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 5 new asymptomatic cases (all were imported cases). 16 asymptomatic cases were freed from medical observation (all were imported cases) and 1 (imported case) became a confirmed case. As of 24:00 on Dec 7, 219 asymptomatic cases were still under medical observation (including 212 imported cases).
As of 24:00 on Dec 7, 7,737 confirmed infections had been reported in the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions and Taiwan province: 6,975 in Hong Kong (112 had died and 5,626 had been cured and discharged from hospital), 46 in Macao (all had been cured and discharged from hospital) and 716 in Taiwan (7 had died and 574 had been cured and discharged from hospital).
