Oct 16: Daily briefing on novel coronavirus cases in China

On Oct 15, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 24 new cases of confirmed infections (all were imported cases, 11 in Shanghai municipality, 5 in Inner Mongolia autonomous region, 2 in Tianjin municipality, 2 in Jiangsu province, 2 in Guangdong province, 1 in Fujian province and 1 in Chongqing municipality), 1 new case of suspected infections (an imported case in Shanghai), and no deaths. 11 patients were released from hospital after being cured. 855 people who had had close contact with infected patients were freed from medical observation. The number of serious cases remained unchanged.
As of 24:00 on Oct 15, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland had reported 3,084 cases of imported confirmed infections and no deaths. In all, 2,844 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 240 confirmed cases (no cases in serious condition) and 5 suspected cases.
As of 24:00 on Oct 15, the National Health Commission had received reports of 85,646 confirmed cases and 4,634 deaths in 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland, and in all 80,759 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 253 confirmed cases (including 4 cases in serious condition) and 5 suspected cases. 843,820 people had been identified as having had close contact with infected patients. 8,179 were still under medical observation.
On Oct 15, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 10 new asymptomatic cases (all were imported cases). 17 asymptomatic cases were freed from medical observation (all were imported cases) and 2 (imported cases) became confirmed cases. As of 24:00 on Oct 15, 376 asymptomatic cases were still under medical observation (including 375 imported cases).
As of 24:00 on Oct 15, 5,790 confirmed infections had been reported in the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions and Taiwan province: 5,213 in Hong Kong (105 had died and 4,943 had been cured and discharged from hospital), 46 in Macao (all had been cured and discharged from hospital) and 531 in Taiwan (7 had died and 491 had been cured and discharged from hospital).
