Sept 17: Daily briefing on novel coronavirus cases in China

On Sept 16, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 9 new cases of confirmed infections (all were imported cases, 4 in Shanghai municipality, 2 in Shaanxi province, 1 in Henan province, 1 in Guangdong province and 1 in Yunnan province), 1 new case of suspected infections (an imported case in Shanghai), and no deaths. 11 patients were released from hospital after being cured. 728 people who had had close contact with infected patients were freed from medical observation. Serious cases increased by 1.
As of 24:00 on Sept 16, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland had reported 2,674 cases of imported confirmed infections and no deaths. In all, 2,533 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 141 confirmed cases (including 1 in serious condition) and 1 suspected case.
As of 24:00 on Sept 16, the National Health Commission had received reports of 85,223 confirmed cases and 4,634 deaths in 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland, and in all 80,448 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 141 confirmed cases (including 1 case in serious condition) and 1 suspected case. 824,740 people had been identified as having had close contact with infected patients. 6,496 were still under medical observation.
On Sept 16, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 14 new asymptomatic cases (all were imported cases). 21 asymptomatic cases were freed from medical observation (all were imported cases) and no asymptomatic cases became confirmed cases. As of 24:00 on Sept 16, 354 asymptomatic cases were still under medical observation (including 353 imported cases).
As of 24:00 on Sept 16, 5,530 confirmed infections had been reported in the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions and Taiwan province: 4,984 in Hong Kong (102 had died and 4,663 had been cured and discharged from hospital), 46 in Macao (all had been cured and discharged from hospital) and 500 in Taiwan (7 had died and 477 had been cured and discharged from hospital).
