Thousands arrested for endangering financial security in H1

BEIJING -- China's Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP) announced on July 20 that 7,822 suspects were arrested for endangering financial security in the first half of 2020, down by 41.5 percent year on year.

According to data released by the SPP, 19,834 people were prosecuted across the country for crimes related to endangering financial security between January and June, up by 25.5 percent from the same period last year.

From April to June, 5,016 people were indicted by prosecutors for offering fraudulent loans or collecting personal loans by illegal means, up by 22.9 percent year on year, said the SPP.

Meanwhile, prosecutors also stepped up efforts to fight criminal wrongdoing in poverty relief work. In the first six months of the year, 849 people were arrested, and 2,836 were prosecuted for misusing poverty relief funds or other related crimes.

Prosecutors have also gotten tough on crimes related to environmental issues. The SPP said that 4,230 people were arrested, and 21,091 faced trial for suspected crimes of impairing the environment and resources in the first half of the year.
