July 17: Daily briefing on novel coronavirus cases in China

On July 16, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 10 new cases of confirmed infections (9 imported cases, 4 in Guangdong province, 1 in Shanghai municipality, 1 in Jiangsu province, 1 in Shandong province, 1 in Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region and 1 in Shaanxi province; 1 indigenous case in Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region), 1 new case of suspected infections (an imported case in Shanghai), and no deaths. 18 patients were released from hospital after being cured. 46 people who had had close contact with infected patients were freed from medical observation. The number of serious cases remained unchanged.

As of 24:00 on July 16, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland had reported 1,998 cases of imported confirmed infections and no deaths. In all, 1,912 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 86 confirmed cases (including 3 in serious condition) and 3 suspected cases.

As of 24:00 on July 16, the National Health Commission had received reports of 83,622 confirmed cases and 4,634 deaths in 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland, and in all 78,737 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 251 confirmed cases (including 3 cases in serious condition) and 3 suspected cases. 767,916 people had been identified as having had close contact with infected patients. 3,651 were still under medical observation.

On July 16, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 5 new asymptomatic cases (including 2 imported cases). 5 asymptomatic cases were freed from medical observation (including 4 imported cases) and no asymptomatic cases became confirmed cases. As of 24:00 on July 16, 104 asymptomatic cases were still under medical observation (including 79 imported cases).

As of 24:00 on July 16, 2,153 confirmed infections had been reported in the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions and Taiwan province: 1,655 in Hong Kong (10 had died and 1,254 had been cured and discharged from hospital), 46 in Macao (45 had been cured and discharged from hospital) and 452 in Taiwan (7 had died and 440 had been cured and discharged from hospital).
