May 19: Daily briefing on novel coronavirus cases in China

On May 18, 31 provincial-level regions on the Chinese mainland as well as the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps reported 6 new cases of confirmed infections (3 imported cases in Inner Mongolia autonomous region and 3 indigenous cases, 2 in Jilin province and 1 in Hubei province), 1 new case of suspected infections (an imported case in Shanghai municipality), and no deaths. 3 patients were released from hospital after being cured. 292 people who had had close contact with infected patients were freed from medical observation. Serious cases increased by 2.

As of 24:00 on May 18, 31 provincial-level regions on the Chinese mainland as well as the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps had reported 1,707 cases of imported confirmed infections and no deaths. In all, 1,661 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 46 confirmed cases (including 3 in serious condition) and 3 suspected cases.

As of 24:00 on May 18, the National Health Commission had received reports of 82,960 confirmed cases and 4,634 deaths in 31 provincial-level regions on the Chinese mainland and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps, and in all 78,241 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 85 confirmed cases (including 10 in serious condition) and 3 suspected cases. So far, 740,428 people have been identified as having had close contact with infected patients. 5,054 are now under medical observation.

On May 18, 31 provincial-level regions on the Chinese mainland as well as the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps reported 17 new asymptomatic cases (all are indigenous cases). 75 asymptomatic cases were freed from medical observation (including 2 imported cases) and 1 (indigenous case) became a confirmed case. As of 24:00 on May 18, 389 asymptomatic cases were still under medical observation (including 29 imported cases).

As of 24:00 on May 18, 1,540 confirmed infections had been reported in the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions and Taiwan province: 1,055 in Hong Kong (4 had been dead and 1,025 had been cured and discharged from hospital), 45 in Macao (44 had been cured and discharged from hospital) and 440 in Taiwan (7 had been dead and 398 had been cured and discharged from hospital).
