May 8: Daily briefing on novel coronavirus cases in China

On May 7, 31 provincial-level regions on the Chinese mainland as well as the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps reported 1 new case of confirmed infections (an indigenous case in Jilin province), 3 new cases of suspected infections (all are imported cases in Shanghai municipality), and no deaths. 36 patients were released from hospital after being cured. 645 people who had had close contact with infected patients were freed from medical observation. Serious cases decreased by 5.

As of 24:00 on May 7, 31 provincial-level regions on the Chinese mainland as well as the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps had reported 1,680 cases of imported confirmed infections and no deaths. In all, 1,461 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 219 confirmed cases (including 5 in serious condition) and 6 suspected cases.

As of 24:00 on May 7, the National Health Commission had received reports of 82,886 confirmed cases and 4,633 deaths in 31 provincial-level regions on the Chinese mainland and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps, and in all 77,993 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 260 confirmed cases (including 18 in serious condition) and 6 suspected cases. So far, 736,010 people have been identified as having had close contact with infected patients. 6,167 are now under medical observation.

On May 7, 31 provincial-level regions on the Chinese mainland as well as the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps reported 16 new asymptomatic cases (all are indigenous cases). 42 asymptomatic cases were freed from medical observation (including 10 imported cases) and no asymptomatic cases became confirmed cases. As of 24:00 on May 7, 854 asymptomatic cases were still under medical observation (including 71 imported cases).

As of 24:00 on May 7, 1,529 confirmed infections had been reported in the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions and Taiwan province: 1,044 in Hong Kong (4 had been dead and 944 had been cured and discharged from hospital), 45 in Macao (40 had been cured and discharged from hospital) and 440 in Taiwan (6 had been dead and 347 had been cured and discharged from hospital).
