May 4: Daily briefing on novel coronavirus cases in China

On May 3, 31 provincial-level regions on the Chinese mainland as well as the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps reported 3 new cases of confirmed infections (all are imported cases, 2 in Shanghai municipality and 1 in Shandong province), 1 new case of suspected infections (an imported case in Shanghai), and no deaths. 53 patients were released from hospital after being cured. 632 people who had had close contact with infected patients were freed from medical observation. Serious cases decreased by 1.

As of 24:00 on May 3, 31 provincial-level regions on the Chinese mainland as well as the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps had reported 1,675 cases of imported confirmed infections and no deaths. In all, 1,273 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 402 confirmed cases (including 5 in serious condition) and 3 suspected cases.

As of 24:00 on May 3, the National Health Commission had received reports of 82,880 confirmed cases and 4,633 deaths in 31 provincial-level regions on the Chinese mainland and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps, and in all 77,766 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 481 confirmed cases (including 33 in serious condition) and 3 suspected cases. So far, 734,766 people have been identified as having had close contact with infected patients. 7,392 are now under medical observation.

On May 3, 31 provincial-level regions on the Chinese mainland as well as the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps reported 13 new asymptomatic cases (including 2 imported cases). 19 asymptomatic cases were freed from medical observation (including 2 imported cases) and no asymptomatic cases became confirmed cases. As of 24:00 on May 3, 962 asymptomatic cases were still under medical observation (including 98 imported cases).

As of 24:00 on May 3, 1,520 confirmed infections had been reported in the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions and Taiwan province: 1,039 in Hong Kong (4 had been dead and 879 had been cured and discharged from hospital), 45 in Macao (39 had been cured and discharged from hospital) and 436 in Taiwan (6 had been dead and 332 had been cured and discharged from hospital).
