May 3: Daily briefing on novel coronavirus cases in China

On May 2, 31 provincial-level regions on the Chinese mainland as well as the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps reported 2 new cases of confirmed infections (1 imported case in Shanghai municipality and 1 indigenous case in Shanxi province), no new cases of suspected infections and no deaths. 28 patients were released from hospital after being cured. 882 people who had had close contact with infected patients were freed from medical observation. Serious cases decreased by 3.

As of 24:00 on May 2, 31 provincial-level regions on the Chinese mainland as well as the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps had reported 1,672 cases of imported confirmed infections and no deaths. In all, 1,221 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 451 confirmed cases (including 6 in serious condition) and 9 suspected cases.

As of 24:00 on May 2, the National Health Commission had received reports of 82,877 confirmed cases and 4,633 deaths in 31 provincial-level regions on the Chinese mainland and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps, and in all 77,713 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 531 confirmed cases (including 34 in serious condition) and 10 suspected cases. So far, 734,281 people have been identified as having had close contact with infected patients. 7,539 are now under medical observation.

On May 2, 31 provincial-level regions on the Chinese mainland as well as the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps reported 12 new asymptomatic cases (including 2 imported cases). 33 asymptomatic cases were freed from medical observation (including 16 imported cases) and no asymptomatic cases became confirmed cases. As of 24:00 on May 2, 968 asymptomatic cases were still under medical observation (including 98 imported cases).

As of 24:00 on May 2, 1,516 confirmed infections had been reported in the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions and Taiwan province: 1,039 in Hong Kong (4 had been dead and 864 had been cured and discharged from hospital), 45 in Macao (38 had been cured and discharged from hospital) and 432 in Taiwan (6 had been dead and 324 had been cured and discharged from hospital).
