Editor’s note: As the coronavirus outbreak has kept the country’s major population homebound, combating cabin fever has become a day-to-day priority for many.

To help you cope with rampant boredom and hopefully soak up some culture, we have handpicked some of China’s vintage theatrical productions spanning various genres. All of them are readily available on the official website of China’s Ministry of Culture and Tourism.

Ballet The Crane Calling

The critically-acclaimed ballet, The Crane Calling, is one of the must-see productions of the National Ballet of China.

Inspired by the real-life story of Xu Xiujuan, a woman who devoted her life to protecting red-crowned cranes and died saving a crane trapped in a swamp in Northeast China’s Heilongjiang province, the ballet eulogizes Xu’s kindness, devotion and the precious harmony between mankind and nature.
